Fayetteville Property Tax Increase, 2009
The Fayetteville Property Tax Increase was on the September 15, 2009 ballot in Washington County, Arkansas, where it was defeated.
The proposed measure, if enacted would have implemented a 4.9-mill property tax increase for area residents. The revenue collected from the tax would have helped to fund the construction of a newer version of Fayetteville High School. Over 10,000 voters turned out for the special election. Total cost of the high school would have been approximately $113 million. The results are to be verified by September 25, 2009.[1]
According to Laurie Masterson, who opposed the tax increase: “I think this sends a clear message that the majority of people are not going to just keep handing over money to government entities without a clear plan,”[2]
