The vacancy warning level for the U.S. District courts is currently set at Blue. There were two new vacancies this past week, leaving the final tally at 84 vacancies or approximately 9.7 percent of the total Article III posts currently unfilled. The vacancy information for the various court levels is as follows:

There are currently 9 Supreme Court posts, 179 appellate court posts and 680 district court posts for a total of 868 Article III judges. This count includes four temporary posts, one each in the Northern District of Alabama, District of Arizona, Southern District of Florida and the Central District of California. This also includes two shared post between the two Missouri districts and the two Kentucky districts, which count as two posts with separate vacancies.

New vacancies
District of Arizona
There were two new vacancies created for the United States District Court for the District of Arizona on January 30, 2013.
Judge James Teilborg assumed senior status for the district after serving on the court for 12 years.[1] He joined the court on October 13, 2000 after an appointment from President Bill Clinton. At the time of his appointment, he was a private practice attorney in Arizona. A native of Colorado, Teilborg graduated from the University of Arizona College of Law with his Juris Doctorate degree in 1966. Teilborg also served in the Arizona Air National Guard from 1966 to 1974 and served as a Colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserve from 1974-1997.[2]
Judge Frederick Martone assumed senior status for the district after serving on the court for 11 years. He joined the court on December 21, 2001 after an appointment from President Bill Clinton.[3] At the time of his appointment to the federal court, Martone was a Justice of the Arizona Supreme Court. Born in Fall River, Massachusetts, Martone graduated from the College of the Holy Cross with his bachelor's degree in 1965 before serving on active duty in the U.S. Air Force from 1965 to 1969. Martone received a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1972 and earned a Masters of Law, LL.M, degree from Harvard Law School in 1975.[4]
The vacancies create the fifth vacancy on the court of thirteen, raising the vacancy warning level from Yellow to Orange.
