Federal Judge Frank Polozola dies
February 26, 2013
Louisiana: Yesterday it was announced that Judge Frank Polozola, who was serving on senior status for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana, has died. Polozola was born in 1942 and was appointed to the court in 1980 by President Jimmy Carter.[1]
During his judicial career, Polozola served as a federal magistrate judge from 1972 until becoming an Article III judge eight years later. He served on the court until January 2007, when he adopted senior status. During that time, Polozola was Chief Judge from 1998 to 2005.[2]
Chief Judge Brian Jackson, who succeeded Polozola on the court, said:
“ | He was an extraordinary jurist. He was devoted to the rule of law. He took very seriously his obligations under the constitution...On a personal level, he was a very caring and compassionate man. I think it's fair to say that here at the courthouse he was a father figure to all, and that we will all miss him greatly.[1] [3] | ” |
Because Judge Polozola was already serving on senior status, his death does not create a new vacancy on the court. However, the Middle District of Louisiana already has one vacancy out of three posts.
