Federal court nominee Timothy Cain has committee hearing
May 12, 2011
South Carolina: President Obama nominee to the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina, Timothy M. Cain, faced an hour and a half of questioning from the Senate Judiciary Committee on May 4, 2011. The Committee hearing is one of the first steps toward having a nomination confirmed by the United States Senate.
Cain was introduced to the Committee by former law partner and current Senator Lindsey Graham. Graham called Cain's 11 years of service as a South Carolina Family Courts judge "the ultimate legal experience" due to the range of issues that he was exposed to.[1]
When asked by Senator Christopher Coons about what his judicial experience to date would bring to the federal bench, Cain said that, "I've held court in 17 counties in South Carolina. I’ve had people of modest means and of great wealth come before me. In court everybody needs to be fed out of the same spoon."[1]
The full Committee will consider Cain's nomination and determine whether or not to bring it to a vote by the Senate as a whole. No date has yet been set for the Committee's vote.
