My name is Felix Montano, and I’m happy to announce that I’m running for City Council in District 3. I’ve lived in Menifee since 2017, along with my wife of over 20 years and our three boys. I’m a regular resident with no business ties in the city, and I want to serve our community by helping to address some of the challenges we face as our city grows.
I'm not a politician, but I care deeply about how Menifee grows and the potential it has as a city. I believe we're at a crucial point, balancing between the right and wrong types of growth. Right now is the moment to make the necessary changes.
A long time ago, I decided that if I ever ran for a city position, I would fund my campaign on my own, using only what I could afford. I made that choice because I didn’t want to feel obligated to anyone, like a builder or special interest group, for a vote that might not be right for our community. So if you don’t see advertisements, it’s not because I don’t care—it's because I’m keeping it self-funded!
If you want real change, I humbly ask for your consideration. Thank you again! - Traffic and congestion are problems that affect us all. I want to focus on projects that will help ease these issues and make it easier for everyone to get around. Even though we might have different opinions, it’s important to come together and find the best solutions for our city.
- The rising cost of rent and home prices is making it hard for many people, especially those on fixed incomes, to stay in Menifee.
- We need more recreational programs for different sports to keep our kids active. The homeless issue is something we need to work on with care and understanding.
I fully support maintaining order and following processes to ensure that city responsibilities are handled efficiently and that everything looks aesthetically pleasing. I understand that as more people move into the city and businesses choose to operate here, it brings in more revenue through taxes. However, there needs to be a balance. When growth is too rapid, some areas get neglected, leaving some feeling shortchanged. Right now, our infrastructure—streets, lights, and traffic—has been stretched to its limit. That's why I'm passionate about slowing down our external growth and focusing on improving and expanding from within.
I believe change starts at the community level, and that’s why I’m running. I'm not a politician, but I understand that real change begins where you live. Starting with your own community is essential to making a difference. If elected, I aim to bring about positive change here, where it matters most. And if, over time, the community recognizes that and elects me to a higher position, then that’s a natural progression. But for now, the focus is on making a meaningful impact at the local level, which is why I'm running for City Council.
I look up to God because He provides the wisdom and guidance to make the right decisions in life.
Much of my experience comes from the various life situations I've encountered and the responsibilities I've taken on in my work. I can share many examples of how the Bible has taught me valuable lessons, and I continue to learn from it even now. There's always something new to discover or a better way to approach challenges. It's a constant process of growth, consistently renewing myself to become a better version of who I am.
I believe that the most important characteristics and principles for an elected official are strong ethics and morals. These qualities form the foundation of who you are as a person, enabling you to make decisions that benefit the greater good, rather than favoring a select few. It's important to consider everyone, recognizing that not all individuals are in the same financial situation—some are without jobs, while others are facing various hardships for different reasons. We must be thoughtful in making decisions that positively impact everyone as a whole. I also believe that ethics and morals play a significant role in guiding tough decisions, especially when you aren't bound by personal or organizational loyalties. This independence is important when making difficult but necessary choices for the community.
I believe that the core responsibility of anyone elected to this office is to make the best decisions for the overall benefit, without feeling obligated to any particular group or organization. This means that if your ideas or concepts are not the best option, you must put aside your pride and ego and vote in favor of what will help progress. Too often, discussions get caught up in egos, and people refuse to work as a team, which is important. The problem with politics today is that everyone wants things done their way, and when that doesn’t happen, valuable time and resources are wasted.
The first major historical event I remember was the Northridge Earthquake in 1994. I was 14 years old at the time, and it left a lasting impact on me. I’ll never forget the tragedies and devastation caused by that earthquake.
My very first job started the day after I turned 16. I worked at Little Caesars inside a Kmart, and I held that job for almost three years, though I’m not exactly sure of the exact length. It was a part-time job that I balanced while attending high school and participating in sports.
Having no prior experience in a position can actually work to your advantage if you view it from a different perspective. You won't have any financial ties or obligations to anyone, allowing you to remain independent. Without those financial connections to specific parties, you're coming in as an outsider, ready to objectively assess how things are being run. If something isn't working or could be improved, that's where you can start pushing for positive change. Unfortunately, politics often turns into a career, where it becomes more about who you know, and this is where progress can get stalled. People hesitate to make necessary changes for fear of upsetting the wrong individuals. But real progress sometimes requires stepping on toes to move things forward.
From my perspective, staying informed and aware of what’s happening within the community is incredibly important.
Good values when making decisions that will impact the city and community, not just now but for the next 15, 20, or even 30 years and beyond. It’s important to have leaders who prioritize the well-being of the community over personal gain, making decisions with a long-term vision. In this role, ego or status has no place; what truly matters is the commitment to serving the people and upholding the law for the greater good.
My views on financial transparency and government accountability play a significant role in why I'm running. The core issue we're facing, whether in local positions or higher levels of government, is a lack of transparency. Too often, personal financial gain becomes the priority, and this prevents us from making decisions that benefit the community as a whole. Instead, we focus on self-interest, and that's hurting us. It's disheartening, and it needs to stop.
Part of the reason I'm running is to ensure that financial ties and relationships are clearly visible, so people can see whether someone is genuine or if there's a conflict of interest. Right now, that transparency is missing, and we need to bring it to light. It's time for elected officials to be held accountable and do the job they were chosen to do — and do it right.
