Two of the seven seats on the Ferguson-Florissant School District Board of Education were up for general election on April 5, 2016. Incumbent Leslie Suzanne Hogshead filed for re-election and was joined on the ballot by challengers Connie Harge and Donna Dameron. Former candidate Roger Hines also filed in the race.[1] Hogshead won re-election, and Harge won the open seat.[2]

The Ferguson-Florrissant Board of Education consists of seven members election at-large to staggered three-year terms. There was no primary election, and the general election was held on April 5, 2016. Two seats were up for general election . The general election will be canceled if the number of candidates equals the number of board vacancies.[3]

An individual must be a registered voter in order to vote in a school election. In order to vote, a person must be 18 years of age or older, must be a citizen of the United States, and must reside in the school district for 30 days.[3]

Ferguson-Florissant School District is located in east-central Missouri in St. Louis County. The county seat is Clayton. St. Louis County was home to 1,001,876 residents in 2014, according to the United States Census Bureau.[6] Ferguson-Florissant School District is located in Missouri. The district was the 15th-largest school district in the state in the 2013–2014 school year and served 12,056 students.[7]

Demographics

St. Louis County outperformed Missouri as a whole in terms of higher education achievement in 2013. The United States Census Bureau found that 40.6 percent of county residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree, compared to 26.2 percent of state residents.
