Fern A. Fisher
Fern A. Fisher was the deputy chief administrative judge of the New York City Courts. She was appointed to this position in March of 2009.[1][2]
Education
Fisher received her undergraduate degree from Howard University in 1975 and her J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1978.[1]
Career
Fisher began her career in 1978 as a hearing officer for the Rent Control Division of the New York City Department of Housing, Preservation, & Development. She worked as an attorney for Harlem Legal Services in 1979 and 1980. She then became a project director for the National Conference of Black Lawyers' Community Organization Legal Assistance Project. From 1984 to 1986, she was an assistant attorney general for the New York Department of Law. She returned to Harlem Legal Services in 1986, where she served as a deputy director until she became a judge in 1989.
Fisher began her judicial career in 1989 as a New York City Housing Court judge. The following year, she became a judge of the New York City Civil Court. She was then elected to the New York County Supreme Court and took office in 1993. She was re-elected to that court in 2008. She also served as an administrative judge of the Civil Court from 1994 to 2009. In 2009, she became the deputy chief administrative judge of the City Courts.[1]
