Finalists chosen for two judgeships of the 4th District

El Paso County, Colorado: The 4th Judicial District Nominating Commission has selected six finalists (out of 26 applicants) for two open positions on the Colorado 4th Judicial District. The vacancies were created by the upcoming retirements of Judge J. Patrick Kelly (Oct. 31) and Judge Timothy J. Simmons (Dec. 31). Gov. Bill Ritter will appoint two judges out of the following list of nominees to become the new district judges.
Nominees are as follows:
- Judge Heyden William Kane II is the presiding judge of the Colorado Springs Municipal Court and a shareholder in the Kane Law Firm, P.C.
- Judge Barbara Lynn Hughes is a Magistrate of the 4th Judicial District, serving in the Probate Division. Prior to taking this position, she worked as an attorney in various positions from 1989-2000.
- Michael Paul McHenry is a Senior Deputy Public Defender and has served in the Colorado Public Defender's office since 1991.
- Debra Campeau is the managing attorney for the Office of the El Paso County Guardian Ad Litem. Previously she was a private practice lawyer.
- Judge Regina Marie Walter is an El Paso County Court judge. She was appointed to this court in September of 2008. She has also worked as a college lecturer/instructor, juvenile magistrate, deputy state public defender, and private practice attorney.
- Timothy Jerome Schutz has been a founding member of the law firm Hanes & Schutz, LLC since 1992.[1]
