Georgia: Governor Nathan Deal will have five applicants to chose from when he appoints a judge to the Mountain Judicial Circuit Superior Court. The applicants are vying to succeed Linton Crawford, who retired from the court on October 31st. They are: Chan Caudell, William R. Oliver, Drew W. Powell, Nina M. Svoren, and Steven M. Campbell.[1]

All five candidates are attorneys and two, Oliver and Powell, are in public service. This Friday, the Georgia Judicial Nominating Commission will interview the applicants.[1]

In Georgia, the governor appoints judges after screening by the nominating commission. The judge then serves until the next general election more than six months after the appointment. If elected, the judge serves the remainder his or her predecessor's unexpired term.
