Flagstaff City Lodging and Bed Tax Continuation, Prop 401 (May 2010)
A Flagstaff City Lodging and Bed Tax Continuation measure was on the May 18, 2010 ballot in the city of Flagstaff which is in Coconino County.
This measure was approved
- YES 9,861 (79.47%)
- NO 2,548 (20.53%)[1]
This measure sought to continue the then-existing 2 percent lodging tax for a further fifteen years. The tax levy in effect going into this election was set to expire at the end of 2013.[2] Since around 73 percent of the money collected from this lodging tax was paid by non-residents previously, proponents of the measure saw that as good reason to continue the tax. Around $5 million a year was generated from this tax, which mostly went towards tourism promotion for the city but also for economic development and beautification of the city. Proponents also noted that this was one of the lowest tourism taxes in Arizona cities.[3]

Proposition 401
A Measure Referred to the People by the City Council of the City of Flagstaff, Arizona: "Shall the City Council have the authority to continue the City Lodging, Restaurant and Lounge ("BBB") Tax at the present rate of two percent (2%) for an additional fifteen (15) year period
beyond March 31, 2013?"[2]
