A Democratic Party primary took place on August 20, 2024, in Florida's 10th Congressional District to determine which Democratic candidate would run in the district's general election on November 5, 2024.

Incumbent Maxwell Alejandro Frost advanced from the Democratic primary for U.S. House Florida District 10.

All 435 seats were up for election. At the time of the election, Republicans had a 220 to 212 majority with three vacancies.[1] As of June 2024, 45 members of the U.S. House had announced they were not running for re-election. In the 2022 election in this district, the Democratic candidate won 59.0%-39.4%. Daily Kos calculated what the results of the 2020 presidential election in this district would have been following redistricting. Joe Biden (D) would have defeated Donald Trump (R) 65.3%-33.5%.[2]

I have also earned degrees from Bethune-Cookman University (BA) and Purdue University (MA). I have taught and earned tenure at the University of Cincinnati, University of Illinois and the University of Central Florida. I am the authored of several books, one academic bestseller and hundreds of articles in public and academic journals. As a public servant I have served on three White House Commissions under Republican and Democrat presidents. In addition, I have served on various Governor's Commissions in Ohio, Illinois, and Florida as well as direct consultants to former Senator Peter Fitzgerald (Illinois-R) and Senator Richard Durbin (Illinois-D). Internationally, I have served as an advisor to the U.S. State Department while also being nominated for the United States Ambassador post of Guyana, South America. I have spoken at several United Nation forums as well as international meetings and legislatures in Brazil, Jamaica, Panama, Ghana, Senegal, England, Libya, Cuba, Egypt and the Dominican Republic. I am also bilingual--Portuguese as a second language. I am an Afro-Latino. My father is from Porta Limon, Costa Rica and my mother who is an African-American, her father is from Jacmel, Haiti. My siblings were born and reared in Colon, Panama. I am a former professional boxing sparring partner as well as former collegiate track runner for Bethune Cookman University."

1. The Interest of the people comes before Party Politics. That is, our political system has become polarized and stagnant with juvenile petty partisan differences. In this light each party works tirelessly to establish sound bites, political theatrics and misinformation to negate the arguments of their competitor. Today's politicians who know little to nothing of American Political History; don't realize that our founding fathers saw politics as a gentile profession that fostered civility. Political leaders--the gentlemen of thought were viewed as the best of society; but today, the American people view both chambers as wealthy brats who have turned their backs on the American people. Congress will be the House of the People again.

2. I will tell the truth. The political system has been regulated into the inner rings of Hades. It is the place where truth dies and double talk is born. Americans are strong, brilliant, and a resilient people. In addition, we are a forgiving people. But, when you filter the truth with lies, deceptions and made up enemies instead of taking responsibility of your own actions; Americans begin to resent their government. Our campaign will be honest and straight with our constituents, the voters. If given raw data of where we stand with homelessness, inflation, poverty, military conflicts, and other grave areas. Americans as a group, a nation will come together to find solutions to our problems. We aren't a Republic; we are a Democracy.

3. Rebuild our District; Rebuild our American Infrastructure. The structural integrity of our infrastructure is falling apart. Electric grids, pipelines, roads, bridges, tunnels, airports, schools, hospitals fresh drinking waterways, and public buildings are in need of repair throughout the nation. However, the greatest infrastructure repair is with the American people. As a group--Americans feel betrayed, isolated, discarded by the government that they pay into and trusted. Americans feel that Congress and the Oval office give more favor to non-Americans. It is not that we are bigoted and hateful; but rather, hurt and rejected. We will bring a voice and a movement of hope & rejuvenation back to the American people.

Post-filing deadline analysis

The following analysis covers all U.S. House districts up for election in Florida in 2024. Information below was calculated on May 7, 2024, and may differ from information shown in the table above due to candidate replacements and withdrawals after that time.

One hundred three candidates ran for Florida’s 28 U.S. House districts, including 42 Democrats and 61 Republicans. That’s 3.68 candidates per district, less than in the previous three election cycles. There were 5.43 candidates per district in 2022, 4.22 candidates per district in 2020, and 3.86 in 2018.

The 8th Congressional District was the only open district, meaning no incumbents filed to run. That’s the fewest open seats in Florida since 2014 when no seats were open. Incumbent Rep. Bill Posey (R-8th) did not run for re-election because he is retired from public office.

Seven candidates—incumbent Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-23rd) and six Republicans—ran for the 23rd Congressional District, the most candidates who ran for a seat in 2024.

Thirty primaries—nine Democratic and 21 Republican—were contested in 2024. Thirty-eight primaries were contested in 2022, 29 primaries were contested in 2020, and 31 primaries were contested in 2018.

Fifteen incumbents—two Democrats and 13 Republicans—were in contested primaries in Florida in 2024. That’s less than the 17 incumbents in contested primaries in 2022 but more than the 10 incumbents in contested primaries in 2020.

The 20th Congressional District is guaranteed to Democrats because no Republicans will appear on the ballot. Democrats filed to run in every congressional district, meaning none are guaranteed to Republicans.

Heading into the 2024 elections, based on results from the 2020 and 2016 presidential elections, the Cook Partisan Voter Index for this district was D+14. This meant that in those two presidential elections, this district's results were 14 percentage points more Democratic than the national average. This made Florida's 10th the 101st most Democratic district nationally.[5]
