Heading into the election the incumbent was Democrat Kathy Castor, who was first elected in 2006.

As of the 2010 redistricting cycle, Florida's 14th Congressional District was located in the Gulf Coast region in southwestern Florida and included parts of Hillsborough County and a small portion of Pinellas County.^[1]
