The 24th Congressional District of Florida held an election for the U.S. House of Representatives on November 6, 2012.

Frederica S. Wilson won re-election on November 6, 2012.[1]

Incumbent: Heading into the election the incumbent was Sandy Adams (R), who was first elected in 2010. Adams ran in the new 7th District.[3]
This was the first election which used new district maps based on 2010 Census data. Florida's 24th Congressional District is located in southern Florida and consists of portions of Broward and Miami-Dade counties.[4]

Florida's 24th District is a solidly Democratic district.
In June 2012, Sabato's Crystal Ball rated Florida's 24th District as a solidly Democratic district.[7]
Impact of redistricting

Prior to redistricting the 24th District included portions of Brevard County (including Titusville) and parts of Orange, Seminole, and Volusia counties. The district also encompassed Port Orange, Winter Park, Edgewater, and New Smyrna Beach.
The 24th District was re-drawn after the 2010 Census. The new district was composed of the following percentages of voters of the old congressional districts.[8][9]
- 82 percent from the 17th Congressional District
- 6 percent from the 18th Congressional District
- 5 percent from the 20th Congressional District
- 4 percent from the 21st Congressional District
- 3 percent from the 23rd Congressional District

In 2012, FairVote did a study on partisanship in the congressional districts, giving each a percentage ranking (D/R) based on the new 2012 maps and comparing that to the old 2010 maps. Florida's 24th District became more Republican because of redistricting.[10]

- 2010: 84D / 16R
Cook Political Report's PVI
In 2012, Cook Political Report released its updated figures on the Partisan Voter Index, which measures each congressional district's partisanship relative to the rest of the country. Florida's 24th Congressional District has a PVI of D+33, which is the 9th most Democratic district in the country. In 2008, this district was won by Barack Obama (D), 87-13 percent over John McCain (R). In 2004, John Kerry (D) won the district 82-18 percent over George W. Bush (R).[11]

On November 2, 2010, Sandy Adams won election to the United States House of Representatives. She defeated Suzanne M. Kosmas (D) and Nicholas Ruiz II (I) in the general election.[12]
