The new 6th District stretches from the Canaveral National Seashore through Daytona Beach up north past St. Augustine.[5]
Prior to redistricting the 6th District stretched from the St. Johns River and Jacksonville, through North Central Florida, encompassing portions of Gainesville and Ocala, and down to the northern tip of the greater Orlando area in Lake County. It included all of Bradford and Gilchrist counties and portions of Alachua, Clay, Duval, Lake, Levy, and Marion counties.
The 6th District was re-drawn after the 2010 Census. The new district was composed of the following percentages of voters of the old congressional districts.[14][15]
- 4 percent from the 3rd Congressional District
- 74 percent from the 7th Congressional District
- 23 percent from the 24th Congressional District

In 2012, FairVote did a study on partisanship in the congressional districts, giving each a percentage ranking (D/R) based on the new 2012 maps and comparing that to the old 2010 maps. Partisanship figures from 2010 relating to the incumbent are unavailable for this district due to the seat being open.[16]
- 2012: 42D / 58R
- 2010: Unavailable
Cook Political Report's PVI
In 2012, Cook Political Report released its updated figures on the Partisan Voter Index, which measures each congressional district's partisanship relative to the rest of the country. Florida's 6th Congressional District has a PVI of R+6, which is the 167th most Republican district in the country. In 2008, this district was won by John McCain (R), 54-46 percent over Barack Obama (D). In 2004, George W. Bush (R) won the district 55-45 percent over John Kerry (D).[17]
