Vote at 16 did not appear on the November 4, 2008 statewide ballot in Florida as an initiated constitutional amendment. The measure would have allowed 16 and 17-year-old residents of the State of Florida the right to vote. Also, the measure would have provided for a lower age to preregister to vote.

Background

A teenager, Miranda Rosenberg, started the initiative because she believed that she was being taxed without representation. She collected signatures throughout the previous five years. She was associated with the Democratic party.[1]

Support

Vote at 16 was the sponsor of the initiative. The group believed that because 16 and 17 year olds are taxed that they should be allowed to have a say in the future and be represented in congress.[2]
