Florida Healthcare Freedom Act qualifies for 2010 ballot
April 26, 2010
TALLAHASSEE, Florida: As the legislative session comes to a close, the Florida Legislature approved the Florida Healthcare Freedom Act for the November 2010 statewide ballot. The Senate approved the amendment with a 26-11 vote.[1] The House voted 74-42.[2] The measure, if approved by voters, would ban any laws that require people to participate in a health care system. A minimum of 60% of voters must approve the amendment in order for it to take effect.[3][4] The Florida measure resembles the Arizona Health Insurance Reform Amendment, which is also scheduled to appear on the 2010 ballot. The proposed measures were developed as a result of the approved federal health care bill, signed by President Barack Obama in March 2010.
The full text of the proposed amendment can be read here.
