The Florida Same-Sex Marriage Amendment was not on the November 4, 2014 ballot in Florida as an initiated constitutional amendment. The measure would have defined marriage as a union of two persons, essentially legalizing same-sex marriage.[1]

Support

The measure was sponsored by Equal Marriage Florida.[1]

  • Tim Hardaway, former Miami Heat player[2]

Arguments

  • Tim Hardaway was the first person to sign a petition for the measure and said, "If you’re married you're married – you should see your significant other in the hospital, make choices for your significant other if you need to make those choices."[2]

Supporters needed to collect 68,314 signatures for the Florida Attorney General and Florida Supreme Court to review the measure and determine its validity. They filed zero signatures and thus the measure was not reviewed. The petition drive deadline was February 1, 2014.
