Senate Bill 2516 would have required the Florida Department of State to create and run a website listing expenditures by state and local government entities for contracts over $5,000. Introduced by Sen. Ronda Storms (R-Brandon) on March 2, 2007, the bill died in committee on May 4, 2007.

Website

The bill required the Department of State to create a searchable website, available for free to the public. For each quarter of the calendar year, the site would have listed each expenditure by a government entity for all contracts over $5,000. Each contract listed online would include:

  • Name of the government entity making the expenditure
  • Date of the expenditure
  • Amount of the expenditure
  • Purpose of the expenditure

Each full-text contract must also be available on the website.

Exemptions are made for any public record exempt under the law.

Status

On May 4, 2007, SB 2516 died in the Committee on Community Affairs.[1]
