Floyd Robert Gibson (1910-2001) was a federal judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit and the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri. Gibson died on October 4th, 2001.

Judicial nominations and appointments

Western District of Missouri

Gibson was nominated to the Western District of Missouri by President John F. Kennedy on August 17, 1961, to a new seat created by 75 Stat. 80; he was confirmed by the Senate on August 30, 1961, and received his commission that same day. He served as chief judge from 1962 until he was advanced to the Eighth Circuit on June 20, 1965.[1] Gibson was succeeded in this position by Elmo Hunter.

Eighth Circuit

Gibson was nominated to the Eighth Circuit by President Lyndon Johnson on May 18, 1965, to a seat vacated by Albert Ridge; he was confirmed by the Senate on June 8, 1965, and received his commission that same day. He served as chief judge from 1974 until he assumed senior status on December 31, 1979. He served until his death on October 4, 2001.[1]
