An effort to recall the City Council and Mayor in Forest Park, Georgia was launched in August 2013. Supporters of the recall started circulating petitions in order to qualify the recall question for the ballot. The recall effort targeted Mayor David Lockhart and city council members Latresa Akins, Maudie McCord and Tommy Smith.[1] The recall effort did not go to a vote.

Background

Recall supporters were upset over the alleged forced firing of City Manager John Parker; they said the replacement, Charity Woods, was a friend of the mayor and was hired despite having no relevant experience for the job. They were also upset over a $35,000 settlement with former city council member Karen Brandee-Williams; Williams had sued the city under the Americans with Disabilities Act, but recall supporters said it was a "pay-off" for supporting the mayor.[1][2]

Linda Lord was the only council member not subject to the recall. She voted against hiring the new city manager.[1]

Lockhard's and Smith's terms expired in December 2013. Akins' and McCord's terms were set to expire in December 2015.[3]
