Former Alaska District Court judge sues the court system
December 7, 2010
Alaska: Former Third Judicial District Court judge, Richard W. Postma, Jr., has filed a federal lawsuit against Alaska Judicial Council and is seeking damages caused by not being retained by voters. Postma was not recommended for retention by the judicial council after the Alaska Commission on Judicial Conduct filed a judicial conduct complaint against him in May of 2010. The complaint was filed after the council determined he was mentally unfit to continue being a judge. Postma is one of only two Alaska District Court judges to be let go by voters since the early 1980s. No hearing has yet been scheduled for the federal case.[1]
