Des Moines, Iowa: Three former Iowa Supreme Court justices have been chosen to receive the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage award for striking down Iowa's ban on same-sex marriage.[1][2] The honors are given out by the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation, and this year have been bestowed upon former justices David Baker and Michael Streit, former Chief Justice Marsha Ternus, and US ambassador to Syria Robert Ford.[1] The justices, who unanimously voted against the ban on same-sex mariage, were all voted out of office the following year.[1]
Meanwhile, the four remaining supreme court judges involved in the dissolution of the ban are facing impeachment.[3][4] House resolutions 47 through 50 would begin impeachment proceedings, and conservative lawmakers have urged action on the items.[3]
