Former Lieutenant Governor seeks Oklahoma Supreme Court appointment
November 3, 2010
Oklahoma: Lt. Gov. Jari Askins has applied for a position on the Oklahoma Supreme Court, along with 19 others. She lost re-election to her current position as Lieutenant Governor in November, 2010 and is seeking to fill the state Supreme Court vacancy created by Justice Marian Opala's death in October of 2010.
Askins is 57 and has served as a Stephens County special judge (1982 - 1990), as deputy counsel for then-Gov. David Walters (1992 - 1994) and as an Oklahoma Representative (1994 - 2006). She was then elected lieutenant governor. Regarding her competition, who are various qualified judges and attorneys, Askins said, “Having looked at the list of names, there are some outstanding attorneys and jurists. The competition will be very stiff.”[1]
