LONDON, Kentucky: Judge Gregory Van Tatenhove of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky sentenced former lawyer Ronnie Wayne Reynolds to 27 months in prison on an extortion charge.[1] Reynolds admitted paying former Whitley County Sheriff Lawrence Hodge over $57,000 so that Hodge would refer individuals charged with drug crimes to Reynolds for legal counsel. In May, Reynolds pleaded guilty to drug and money laundering charges and agreed to a 15 1/2 year sentence. He admitted to charging clients referred by Hodge a total of $257,000. Reynolds must forfeit $199,500 in assets.[2]
