Two of the seven seats on the Fort Zumwalt R-II School District school board were up for general election on April 5, 2016. Incumbents Scott Grasser and Mike Swaringim filed for re-election. They faced challengers Arnie Dienoff and Genelle Speed-Hale. Both incumbents were successful in their bids for re-election.[1]

The Fort Zumwalt R-II School District school board consists of seven members who are elected at large to staggered three-year terms. There was no primary election, and the general election was held on April 5, 2016. Two seats were up for general election. The general election will be canceled if the number of candidates equals the number of board vacancies. [2]

An individual must be a registered voter in order to vote in a school election. In order to vote, a person must be 18 years of age or older, must be a citizen of the United States, and must reside in the school district for 30 days. School board candidates must be at least 24 years of age, have lived in the state for one year, and cannot be a convicted felon.[2]

Fort Zumwalt R-II School District is located in east-central Missouri in St. Charles County. The county seat of St. Charles County is St. Charles. St. Charles County was home to 379,492 residents in 2014, according to the United States Census Bureau.[6] Fort Zumwalt R-II School District is located in Missouri. The district was the sixth-largest school district in the state in the 2013–2014 school year and served 18,654 students.[7]

St. Charles County outperformed the rest of Missouri in terms of higher education achievement in 2013.
