Fotios Tsimboukakis
Fotios "Frank" Tsimboukakis was a candidate for the nonpartisan District 5 seat on the San Diego City Council in California. He was defeated in the primary election on June 7, 2016.
Tsimboukakis was a 2014 Democratic candidate for District 38 of the California State Senate.
Biography
Born in Greece, Tsimboukakis immigrated to the United States following high school.[1] He earned his B.A. in Mass Communications and Sociology from U.C. Berkeley in 1984 and his M.B.A. from National University in 1988.[2]
Professionally, Tsimboukakis has worked in a variety of industries from news and sports reporting to finance. Most recently, from 1990 to 2011, he worked in sales and marketing.[2]

2016
The mayor's chair and five of the nine seats on the San Diego City Council were up for election on June 7, 2016.
While the June election was called a primary, it was functionally a general election. The only races where no candidate won a majority (50 percent plus one) of the votes cast in the primary advanced to the election on November 8, 2016. The November election was called a general election, but it was functionally a runoff election. Incumbent Mark Kersey defeated Fotios Tsimboukakis and Keith Mikas in the primary election for San Diego City Council District 5.

Elections for the California State Senate took place in 2014. A primary election took place on June 3, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 7, 2014. Incumbent Joel Anderson (R) and Fotios "Frank" Tsimboukakis (D) were unopposed in the blanket primary. Anderson defeated Tsimboukakis in the general election.[6][7][8]
