Four new judges appointed to Colorado courts

Colorado: Gov. Bill Ritter appointed four new judges on September 30, 2010: Michael P. McHenry and William B. Bain to the 4th Judicial District, Elizabeth B. Volz to the 18th Judicial District and Douglas J. Miles to the El Paso County Court. All four judges will take office on January 1, 2011 and will serve a provisional term of two years. After this, they may be retained by voters to full terms of 6 years for the district courts and 4 years for the county court.

Michael McHenry currently works as senior deputy public defender. He has served in the Office of the Colorado State Public Defender since 1991. William Bain is an assistant city attorney for Colorado Springs and a former civil litigator for the law firm of Welborn Sullivan Meck & Tooley. Elizabeth Volz has worked for the firm of Campbell Killin Brittan & Ray, where she is now senior counsel, since 2002. She has also practiced law in Maryland, South Carolina and Guam. Since 2009, Douglas Miles has worked as an attorney adviser to Aequitas: The Prosecutor’s Resource on Violence Against Women. He has also worked as a chief deputy district attorney for the 4th Judicial District.[1]
