Fox Business Network (FBN) is a cable news channel and website owned by Fox Entertainment Group, a subsidiary of 21st Century Fox. FBN was first launched in 2007 as a 24-hour news network dedicated to business, financial and economic news.
The network operates three bureaus: New York, Chicago and Washington D.C. According to FBN, the network had over 70 million subscribers as of 2012.[1]
Background
Fox Business Network (FBN) broadcasts real-time market news and produces original programing. The network's focus is on business, financial and economic news. Prior to the launch of FBN, CNBC was the only 24-hour business news network.[2]
In 2014, the projected revenue growth of FBN outpaced that of CNBC and Bloomberg TV—another business-oriented network—by 10 to 12 percent. However, CNBC's 2014 revenue was predicted to reach $702 million and Bloomberg TV $191 million, while FBN was predicted to reach $205 million.[3]
The FBN website includes coverage on the global markets, industry-specific reports, the economy and policy, investing, technology, personal finance, business leaders and small business coverage. While the website features real-time stock market numbers, it also features news and breaking news stories.[4]
FBN programing includes shows such as the following (the following list is not comprehensive):[5]
- Mornings with Maria hosted by Maria Bartiromo
- The Intelligence Report with Trish Regan hosted by Trish Regan
- Lou Dobbs Tonight hosted by Lou Dobbs
- Stossel hosted by John Stossel
- Varney & Co hosted by Stuart Varney
- Countdown to the Closing Bell with Liz Claman hosted by Liz Claman

2016 presidential elections
On October 27, 2015, FBN announced that they and The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) would co-host the fourth Republican presidential primary debate in Milwaukee, Wis. Maria Bartiromo, along with Neil Cavuto of FBN and Gerard Baker of the WSJ, moderated the primetime debate. FBN's Trish Regan and Sandra Smith and WSJ Washington bureau chief Gerald Seib moderated the undercard debate.[6][7]
The network has received some criticism for their debate candidate-selection process. The criticism being levied criticizes the network's choice of polls used to determine which candidates would participate in the undercard debate and which would participate in the primetime debate. Politico noted that Gov. Chris Christie and Mike Huckabee had been "downgraded" to the undercard debate.[8] Senator Lindsey Graham and Gov. George Pataki were altogether excluded from the debates. The two polls, of a total of four, that were criticized by the candidates' campaigns were a NBC News/Wall Street Journal and Investor's Business Daily/TIPP polls. The main contention is the methodology used in the conducting of the poll. FBN responded to the criticisms by stating that "it [FBN] accepted the four most recent live-interview polls, without discrimination."[8]
