Two seats on the Fox C-6 School District Board of Education were up for general election on April 7, 2015.

The seats of incumbent David Palmer and former board member Cheryl Hermann were up for re-election.[1] Palmer and newcomers Robin Hanson, Chris Hastings, Mark Jones, Drew Kriese and Sherry Poppen competed for the two at-large seats. Hastings and Poppen defeated the other four candidates to win the election.

Fox C-6 School District is located in east-central Missouri in Jefferson County. The county seat is Hillsboro. This county is home to 221,396 residents, according to the United States Census Bureau.[2] In the 2011-2012 school year, Fox C-6 School District was the 15th-largest school district in Missouri and served 12,333 students.[3]

Demographics

Jefferson County underperformed compared to the rest of Missouri in terms of higher education achievement in 2013. The United States Census Bureau found that 17.4 percent of county residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree, compared to 26.2 percent for Missouri as a whole. The median household income in Jefferson County was $54,845, compared to $47,380 for the state of Missouri. The poverty rate was 11.3 percent, compared to 15.5 percent for the entire state.[2]

Voter and candidate information

The Fox Board of Education consists of seven members elected at-large to three-year terms. There was no primary election, and the general election was held on April 7, 2015. Two seats were up for election in 2015.[1]

School board candidates had to file with their county elections department during the candidate filing period, which began on December 16, 2014, and ended on January 20, 2015. To vote in the 2015 general election, residents had to register by March 11, 2015. The absentee voting deadline was on April 1, 2015.[5]

Endorsements

Chris Hastings received endorsements from the local affiliate of the Missouri National Education Association and the Jefferson County Labor Club of the AFL-CIO COPE.[6][7]

Mark Jones received endorsements from state Sen. Paul Wieland (R-22) and state Reps. John McCaherty (R-97), Rob Vescovo (R-112) and Dan Shaul (R-113). He also received endorsements from Jefferson County Executive Ken Waller, Jefferson County Council District 2 member Renee Reuter and Arnold Mayor Ron Counts.[8]

Drew Kriese received an endorsement from the Missouri State Teachers Association.[9]

Campaign finance

No contributions or expenditures were reported during the election, according to the Missouri Ethics Commission.[10]
