Foy Guin
Junius Foy Guin, Jr. was an Article III judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama. He first joined the court in 1973 after being nominated by President Richard Nixon and served on senior status from 1989 until his death on November 8, 2016.[1]
Education
Guin earned both a bachelor's degree and a J.D. from the University of Alabama.[1]
Military service
Guin served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946.[1]
Professional career
Prior to becoming a federal judge, Foy spent his career in private practice in the state of Alabama from 1948 to 1973.[1]
Judicial nominations and appointments
Northern District of Alabama
Guin was nominated by President Richard Nixon on March 20, 1973, to a seat vacated by Judge Clarence Allgood as Allgood assumed senior status. Guin was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on April 10, 1973, and he received his commission on April 18, 1973. Guin assumed senior status on February 3, 1989, and he served as a senior judge until his death on November 8, 2016.[1] Guin was succeeded in this position by Edwin Nelson.
