Frack Free Colorado (FFC) is a coalition of citizens, organizations and companies that works to educate the public about the practice of hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, and the transition to sustainable living and renewable energy in Colorado.[1]

Mission

According to Frack Free Colorado's website, the group's mission consists of the following:[1]

To protect Coloradans’ basic rights to clean water, clean air, a safe home, and a sustainable future.[2]

Background

Frack Free Colorado was founded in 2012 by the organizations below:[3]

  • Patagonia
  • Vibrant Planet
  • Conscious Global Leadership
  • Artists Against Fracking
  • Water Defense
  • Erie Rising
  • Fracktivist.com
  • Evolutionary Law

FFC aims to educate the public by hosting events and by featuring testimonials, articles and shareable infographics for social media about what it deems to be the dangers of fracking. It also attempts to create discussion of oil and gas loopholes and exemptions in federal law, particularly the so-called “Halliburton Loophole”, on its website.[3][4][5][6][7][8]

The group also enumerates its goals as a coalition as follows:[1]

  • To protect Colorado from the dangers of fracking
  • To empower Coloradans with information on renewable energy solutions, sustainable agriculture, and sustainable living so that we can collectively move away from dirty industries. We’re becoming a massive, inspired people's movement that cannot be ignored
  • To preserve quality of life throughout Colorado by educating and empowering citizens to create the world we want to live in
  • To collaborate with individuals and organizations that strive toward similar goals.[2]

Finances

Frack Free Colorado generates funds primarily through donations, and the group aims to inspire the public to donate by offering certain products on its website. Specifically, the group offers a Frack Free Colorado "Growing the Sunlight Revolution" poster for $20, as well as its own empowerment training series designed to equip communities "with the tools and knowledge for building grassroots power," according to its website.[9][10][11] In June 2013, the group raised $4,164 through a GoFundMe fundraiser called "Move Colorado Past Fracking" in June 2013 (the fundraiser had a $20,000 goal).[12]
