My name is France Barral and I am passionate about public education.

I have been involved in my kids' school in a number of capacities at the PTA and school community councils for years. Over the years, I worked hard to make small improvements to our schools, from doing advocacy work on behalf of our children to improving the safety at schools, proposing a mindfulness program, and fighting for clean air. I am now running for Granite School Board to continue to serve our schools. The values that will guide my actions and decisions are equity, fairness and inclusion. My priorities are supporting our teachers and protecting our students' environment so that they can focus on learning. Because Covid-19 has imposed on all of us extraordinary circumstances, I will dedicate my first year to ensuring that none our students fall through the cracks due to the long disruption.

I am honored to have the trust of Mayor Silvestrini for Millcreek and Holladay former councilman Gunn. I will work hard to earn your trust as well. Please reach out to me at any time to discuss issues or raise concerns. I promise to always work on finding a solution to these.
  • I will support our teachers in as many ways as possible
  • I will support school environments that allow students to focus on learning
  • I will support research-and-evidence based best practices in the classroom
I am passionate about public policies that strive toward equity and justice. We are not born with equal gifts and in equal families, but I strongly believe that schools should remain one of the first and essential levers of society that allows the brightest students to shine, regardless of their social-economic status, race, gender, ethnicity etc...
I also strongly believe that public education is an indispensable pillar of democracy and as such must be cherished, protected and appropriately funded.
Integrity; Empathy; Openness; Impartiality; Pragmatism; Inclusivity; Inquisitiveness and willingness to solve problems.
Listening skills; open mindedness; ability to be open and seek solutions that bring people together
I have many many books that I have influenced me in so many ways. Naming one would be far to reductive.
Be a bridge between the community and the school district and relay information effectively and faithfully.

But also....
Approve purchases and budgets,
Approve administrative appointments
Approve new schools and school closures

Establish district policies
The values that will be guiding my decisions are equity and inclusion. I will actively listen to all stakeholders and ensure that I understand all points of view. I pledge to regularly attend faculty, PTA & SCC meetings in our schools, as well as attend townhall meetings and meet with residents. I will also listen to the teachers associations. Finally, I will be available at any time via cell phone, email, Facebook page and my website.
Having a full understanding of all stakeholders will allow me to recommend balanced decisions that take all parties in consideration.
In addition to all the organizations and individuals noted above, I will also work closely with the cities of Millcreek and Holladay as well as our legislators.
