Two of the seven seats on the Francis Howell School District school board were up for general election on April 5, 2016. Incumbent Cynthia Bice filed for re-election. Incumbent Amy McEvoy filed in the race but formally withdrew on January 22, 2016. Bice faced challengers Michelle Walker, Kimberlyann Granger and Mike Hoehn, a former board member. Walker and Hoehn were successful in securing seats on the board.[1]

Voter and candidate information

The Fox C-6 School District school board consists of seven members who are elected at large to staggered three-year terms. There was no primary election, and the general election was held on April 5, 2016. Two seats were up for general election. The general election will be canceled if the number of candidates equals the number of board vacancies. [2]

An individual must be a registered voter in order to vote in a school election. In order to vote, a person must be 18 years of age or older, must be a citizen of the United States, and must reside in the school district for 30 days. School board candidates must be at least 24 years of age, have lived in the state for one year, and cannot be a convicted felon.[2]

Francis Howell School District is located in east-central Missouri in St. Charles County. The county seat of St. Charles County is St. Charles. St. Charles County was home to 379,493 residents in 2014, according to the United States Census Bureau.[7] Francis Howell School District is located in Missouri. The district was the fourth-largest school district in the state in the 2013–2014 school year and served 19,975 students.[8]

Demographics

St. Charles County outperformed Missouri as a whole in terms of higher education achievement in 2013. The United States Census Bureau found that 35.1 percent of county residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree, compared to 26.2 percent of state residents. The median household income in St. Charles County was $71,077, compared to $47,380 for the state of Missouri.
