As a current board member for the Chula Vista Elementary School District, I’m passionate about advancing educational equity, school safety, and community engagement. Ensuring that every child reaches foundational literacy by third grade is a top priority, as it’s key to academic success and lifelong learning. I’m also focused on creating safe and supportive school environments by addressing behavioral and mental health needs through proactive strategies. Additionally, I'm dedicated to strengthening partnerships between schools and the community, working to expand career exploration programs and engaging parents and local organizations to support student success.
The Individual I look up to is Oprah Winfrey. Her journey from humble beginnings to becoming a powerful media mogul and philanthropist is inspiring. Oprah has used her platform to advocate for education, mental health, and social justice, demonstrating the impact one person can have on millions.

I admire her commitment to empowering others through education and her efforts to create opportunities for underserved communities. Oprah's ability to connect with people on a personal level and her emphasis on empathy and understanding are qualities I strive to emulate in my own work. Her example motivates me to advocate for positive change and to uplift those around me, reinforcing the importance of compassion and service in leadership.
One book I’d recommend is The Smartest Kids in the World by Amanda Ripley. It examines education systems worldwide, exploring how different countries approach learning and what makes students succeed. Ripley’s insights reinforce the importance of high expectations, teacher support, and community involvement—principles that resonate deeply with my own approach to educational policy.

For an essay, Martin Luther King Jr.’s The Purpose of Education offers a powerful reminder of education’s role in developing not just intellect but character. This philosophy underpins my belief that schools should nurture well-rounded students who are prepared to contribute positively to society.
For an elected official, integrity, transparency, and accountability are paramount. Integrity builds trust with constituents, ensuring decisions are made for the community’s best interests. Transparency fosters open communication, allowing the public to understand the reasoning behind decisions and to stay informed. Accountability keeps officials grounded and responsive, holding them to the promises and commitments they make.

An effective elected official should also be empathetic and community-focused, understanding diverse perspectives and addressing the unique needs of their constituents. Finally, a commitment to collaboration and resilience is essential, particularly in facing challenges and advocating for meaningful, lasting change.
I believe several qualities position me for success as an officeholder:

1. **Dedication to Education**: My long-standing commitment to enhancing educational opportunities for all students drives my passion for making informed decisions that positively impact the Chula Vista Elementary School District.

2. **Collaborative Leadership**: I value collaboration and have experience working effectively with various stakeholders, including educators, parents, and community members. This approach fosters inclusivity and builds consensus around shared goals.

3. **Strong Advocacy Skills**: My experience in advocating for teachers and students has equipped me with the skills to address diverse needs and challenges within the district. I prioritize open communication and actively listen to the concerns of my constituents.

4. **Strategic Vision**: I possess the ability to think strategically about long-term goals while addressing immediate needs. This enables me to develop policies that are not only effective in the short term but also sustainable for future generations.

5. **Resilience and Adaptability**: I understand that challenges can arise unexpectedly, and my resilience and adaptability allow me to navigate difficult situations while remaining focused on our goals.

6. **Community Engagement**: I believe in the power of community involvement. My dedication to engaging families and local organizations ensures that diverse perspectives are represented in decision-making processes.

7. **Commitment to Equity**: I am deeply committed to promoting equity in education, ensuring that all students have access to the resources and support they need to thrive, regardless of their background.

These qualities, combined with my experience and passion for education, make me well-suited to effectively serve and lead the Chula Vista Elementary School District.
The core responsibilities for a member of the Chula Vista Elementary School District Board include setting a strategic vision for student success, ensuring fiscal responsibility, and prioritizing policies that create safe and supportive learning environments. A board member must advocate for high-quality education that addresses both academic and social-emotional needs, working closely with teachers, staff, and community stakeholders to achieve this.

Effective oversight of the district’s budget is also critical, ensuring resources are allocated equitably and efficiently. This includes balancing financial stability with investments in teacher support, infrastructure, and innovative programs. Engaging with parents and the broader community is essential, as is fostering transparency and accountability in decision-making. Ultimately, the role is about advocating for every student’s success and building a district that reflects the values and needs of the community.
I aspire to leave a legacy that reflects a commitment to equity, excellence, and community empowerment in education. Specifically, I would like to be remembered for:

1. **Transformative Educational Practices**: Implementing innovative programs and policies that improve student outcomes, particularly for underserved populations. I hope to foster a culture of continuous improvement that elevates the learning experience for all students.

2. **Strengthened Community Engagement**: Building strong partnerships between schools, families, and the broader community, ensuring that everyone has a voice in the educational process. I want to create an environment where parents and community members feel empowered to participate actively in decision-making.

3. **Support for Educators**: Advocating for policies that support and retain high-quality teachers and staff. By prioritizing professional development and fair compensation, I hope to contribute to a workforce that feels valued and equipped to provide the best education possible.

4. **Focus on Mental Health and Well-Being**: Promoting mental health initiatives and resources for students and staff, ensuring that emotional well-being is considered a crucial aspect of the educational experience.

5. **Equity and Inclusion**: Championing diversity and inclusivity within the district, working to eliminate barriers that prevent students from reaching their full potential. I want to ensure that every student, regardless of their background, has access to quality education and opportunities for growth.

6. **Advocacy for Lifelong Learning**: Inspiring a love for learning that extends beyond the classroom, encouraging students to explore their interests and pursue their passions throughout their lives.

Ultimately, my goal is to create a lasting impact that empowers future generations, fostering a community where education serves as a powerful tool for positive change and opportunity.
The first historical event I remember is the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster on January 28, 1986. I was about six years old at the time. The tragic explosion was shocking and left a significant impression on me, as it was a major moment in U.S. history that highlighted both the risks of space exploration and the human stories behind the astronauts involved.
My very first job was as a grocery store clerk during high school. I worked there for about two years. This experience taught me valuable lessons about customer service, teamwork, and responsibility, which have been beneficial throughout my career. It was a formative experience that helped me appreciate the importance of hard work and community engagement.
One of my favorite books is **"The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho**. This novel resonates with me because of its themes of self-discovery, purpose, and following one’s dreams. The story of Santiago, a shepherd who embarks on a journey to find his personal legend, mirrors the idea that each individual has a unique path to follow.

What I particularly appreciate about the book is its message about the importance of perseverance and listening to one's heart. It emphasizes that obstacles are often part of the journey and that the pursuit of dreams can lead to profound personal growth. The narrative encourages readers to remain open to opportunities and to recognize the signs that guide them along their path.

Overall, "The Alchemist" inspires me to embrace challenges and to believe in the power of pursuing one’s passions, making it a book that I often revisit for motivation and reflection.
The primary job of a school board member is to serve as a steward of the educational system, ensuring that every student receives a high-quality education. This involves setting a clear vision and strategic goals for the district, advocating for policies that enhance student learning, and making decisions that reflect the community's values and needs.

Additionally, a school board member is responsible for overseeing the district's budget and ensuring that resources are allocated effectively and equitably. They must also support and engage with teachers, staff, and parents, fostering a collaborative environment that promotes student success. Importantly, school board members should be advocates for transparency and accountability, ensuring that the community is informed and involved in decision-making processes. Ultimately, their role is to prioritize student achievement and well-being while fostering a positive and inclusive school environment.
As a member of the Chula Vista Elementary School District Board, my constituents primarily include students, parents, teachers, and staff within the district. Additionally, the broader Chula Vista community, including local organizations and stakeholders, plays a crucial role in shaping our educational landscape.

Each group has unique perspectives and needs: students rely on us for a supportive and enriching learning environment, parents seek effective communication and engagement in their children's education, teachers need the resources and support to excel in their roles, and the community desires a school system that prepares students for future success. My goal is to represent all these voices, ensuring their needs and concerns are heard and addressed in our decision-making processes.
Supporting the diverse needs of students, faculty, staff, and the community requires a multifaceted approach:

Inclusive Policies: I would advocate for policies that promote inclusivity and equity, ensuring that all students receive the resources they need to succeed, regardless of their backgrounds. This includes support for programs that address language barriers, special education, and socio-economic disparities.

Professional Development: Supporting faculty and staff through ongoing professional development is crucial. This can include training on culturally responsive teaching, social-emotional learning, and strategies for engaging diverse learners.

Community Engagement: I would prioritize regular communication with parents and community members, creating forums for feedback and collaboration. Engaging families in advisory committees can ensure that their voices inform decision-making and that schools reflect community values.

Mental Health Resources: Providing comprehensive mental health resources and support services is essential for both students and staff. This includes counseling services, wellness programs, and resources for managing stress and emotional challenges.

Career Exploration: Expanding career exploration programs that connect students with local businesses and organizations can help them discover diverse career paths and develop skills that align with their interests.

Celebrating Diversity: I would promote initiatives that celebrate the cultural diversity within our district, such as multicultural events and curriculum inclusivity, fostering a sense of belonging and respect among all students.

By implementing these strategies, I aim to create an educational environment that is responsive to the diverse needs of our district’s community, ensuring that every individual has the support and resources to thrive.
Building strong relationships with the broader community involves proactive engagement and collaboration. Here’s how I would approach this:

Community Forums and Meetings: I would host regular community forums to gather input and feedback from parents, residents, and local organizations. This open dialogue will help identify key issues and priorities within the community.

Partnerships with Local Organizations: Collaborating with local nonprofits, businesses, and community organizations is essential. I would target groups such as the Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce, local advocacy groups, and cultural organizations to create partnerships that support student learning and community engagement.

Engagement with Higher Education Institutions: Building relationships with local colleges and universities can facilitate opportunities for internships, mentorships, and educational programs that benefit our students and faculty.

Connecting with Faith-Based Organizations: Many community members are engaged with local faith-based organizations. Partnering with these groups can help reach families and provide additional support networks for students and parents.

School and Community Events: Actively participating in and promoting school and community events, such as fairs, festivals, and educational workshops, will help foster relationships and increase visibility within the community.

Social Media and Communication: Utilizing social media and newsletters to share updates, celebrate successes, and highlight community contributions can help keep everyone informed and engaged.

By targeting these specific groups and organizations, I aim to create a robust network of support that enhances educational opportunities and fosters a sense of community, ultimately benefiting our students and families.
Good teaching encompasses several key components that promote student engagement, understanding, and growth:

1. **Content Mastery**: Effective teachers have a deep understanding of their subject matter, allowing them to explain complex concepts clearly and accessibly.

2. **Engagement Strategies**: Good teaching involves actively engaging students through diverse instructional methods, including hands-on activities, discussions, and technology integration to cater to different learning styles.

3. **Differentiation**: Effective educators tailor their instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, providing additional support or enrichment as needed to ensure all learners can succeed.

4. **Clear Learning Objectives**: Establishing measurable learning goals helps students understand expectations and objectives for each lesson.

5. **Ongoing Assessment and Feedback**: Good teaching includes regular assessment of student progress through formative and summative methods. Timely, constructive feedback enables students to reflect on their learning and make necessary adjustments.

6. **Building Relationships**: Effective teachers cultivate strong relationships with students, creating a safe and supportive environment where learners feel valued and motivated.

To measure good teaching, I would use a multi-faceted evaluation approach:

- **Student Performance Data**: Analyze assessment results and growth metrics to gauge student understanding and achievement.
- **Classroom Observations**: Conduct regular observations to evaluate teaching practices and classroom dynamics.

- **Student Feedback**: Gather student input through surveys and discussions to understand their perspectives on teaching effectiveness.
Expanding the curriculum is essential to meet the evolving needs of students and prepare them for the future. Here are several areas I would focus on:

Advanced Technical Training: There is a growing demand for skills in technology and trades. Expanding technical training programs, such as coding, robotics, and cybersecurity, can equip students with the skills needed for high-demand careers. Partnering with local businesses and organizations can facilitate internship and apprenticeship opportunities, allowing students to gain real-world experience.

STEM and STEAM Education: Emphasizing science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) is crucial. Integrating hands-on projects, interdisciplinary lessons, and problem-solving activities can ignite students' interest in these fields and foster critical thinking.

Social-Emotional Learning (SEL): Incorporating SEL into the curriculum can help students develop essential skills like self-awareness, empathy, and resilience. Programs that focus on emotional intelligence can enhance students' well-being and improve their academic performance.

Civic Engagement and Leadership: Expanding programs that promote civic engagement and leadership skills can empower students to become active, informed citizens. Curriculum elements such as debate clubs, student government, and community service projects can foster a sense of responsibility and connection to their communities.

Environmental Education: With growing concerns about climate change, integrating environmental education into the curriculum can raise awareness and inspire students to take action. Hands-on projects, outdoor learning, and partnerships with local environmental organizations can enhance this focus.
Ensuring adequate funding for schools is crucial for providing a high-quality education and maintaining essential programs. Here are several strategies I would advocate for:

Advocacy for Increased Funding: Actively engaging with state and local legislators to advocate for increased education funding is essential. This includes highlighting the specific needs of our district and the impact of funding on student success.

Leveraging Grants and Partnerships: Identifying and applying for federal, state, and private grants can provide additional financial resources for schools. Building partnerships with local businesses and community organizations can also create opportunities for sponsorships and funding for specific programs.

Community Engagement and Support: Fostering strong relationships with parents and community members can mobilize support for funding initiatives. Organizing informational sessions to educate the community about funding needs and engaging them in advocacy efforts can strengthen support for funding measures.

Exploring Alternative Revenue Streams: Investigating alternative revenue sources, such as grants for specific programs, can supplement funding. This includes seeking funding for STEM initiatives, arts education, and mental health programs that may not be fully supported through traditional funding channels.

Budget Transparency and Accountability: Promoting transparency in budgeting processes can build trust and demonstrate to stakeholders how funds are allocated and utilized. Ensuring that stakeholders understand the impact of funding decisions can help garner support for necessary funding initiatives.

Aligning Funding with Strategic Goals: Ensuring that funding aligns with the district's strategic goals is critical. This includes advocating for funds that support essential programs, such as special education, mental health services, and professional development for educators.
My policies for safety in schools are driven by several key principles that prioritize the well-being of students, staff, and the entire school community:

1. **Prevention and Proactivity**: Focusing on proactive measures to prevent incidents is essential. This includes implementing comprehensive safety protocols, regular training for staff and students, and fostering a culture of awareness that encourages reporting of potential threats or concerns.

2. **Collaboration and Communication**: Building strong partnerships among schools, law enforcement, mental health professionals, and community organizations enhances safety efforts. Open lines of communication ensure that all stakeholders are informed and involved in safety planning and response strategies.

3. **Mental Health and Support Services**: Recognizing that mental health plays a crucial role in overall safety, I advocate for increasing access to mental health resources and support services within schools. This includes counseling, social-emotional learning programs, and training for staff to identify and address mental health issues.

4. **Inclusive Environment**: Promoting an inclusive and respectful school culture is fundamental to safety. Creating an environment where students feel valued and supported can reduce bullying, aggression, and other negative behaviors that compromise safety.

5. **Emergency Preparedness**: Schools must be well-prepared for emergencies. This involves conducting regular drills, having clear emergency response plans, and ensuring that all staff are trained in crisis management procedures.

6. **Student Empowerment**: Empowering students to take an active role in their safety fosters a sense of responsibility and ownership. Programs that teach conflict resolution, peer mediation, and bystander intervention can help students contribute to a safer school environment.
Supporting the mental health needs of students, faculty, and staff is essential for creating a thriving educational environment. Here are several strategies I would advocate for:

1. **Increased Access to Mental Health Resources**: I would work to expand access to mental health services within schools, including on-site counselors and psychologists. Ensuring that students and staff have easy access to mental health support can significantly improve well-being.

2. **Training and Professional Development**: Providing training for faculty and staff on mental health awareness, identification of mental health issues, and effective response strategies can empower them to support students in need. Workshops on stress management, resilience-building, and self-care can also benefit staff.

3. **Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Programs**: Integrating SEL into the curriculum helps students develop essential skills for managing their emotions, building relationships, and coping with challenges. Programs that promote empathy, mindfulness, and emotional regulation can create a positive school culture.

4. **Peer Support Programs**: Establishing peer mentoring and support programs allows students to connect with one another, fostering a sense of community and reducing stigma around mental health issues. Training student leaders to provide support can enhance this initiative.

5. **Crisis Intervention and Support**: Developing clear protocols for crisis situations ensures that students and staff receive timely support when needed. Collaborating with mental health professionals to create comprehensive crisis intervention plans is crucial.

6. **Collaboration with Families**: Engaging families in mental health initiatives promotes a holistic approach to student well-being. Providing resources and workshops for parents can help them support their children’s mental health at home.
As a member of the Chula Vista Elementary School District Board, I believe that there are several existing policies that could be improved, as well as new policies that could be implemented to better support our students, staff, and community:

Mental Health Support Policies: I would advocate for enhancing mental health support policies to ensure that all students have access to comprehensive mental health resources. This could include expanding on-site counseling services, integrating mental health education into the curriculum, and providing training for staff to recognize and address mental health issues.

Student Discipline Policies: Revising student discipline policies to focus more on restorative practices rather than punitive measures can help create a positive school climate. Implementing restorative justice approaches can address behavioral issues while promoting accountability and personal growth among students.

Equity and Inclusion Policies: I would push for stronger equity and inclusion policies that ensure all students, regardless of their background, have access to high-quality educational opportunities. This includes regular assessments of curriculum, resources, and support services to address disparities and promote inclusivity.

Technology Access Policies: Implementing policies that ensure equitable access to technology for all students is critical. This could involve creating programs to provide devices and internet access for low-income families, as well as ongoing technical support to facilitate effective learning.

Parental Engagement Policies: Enhancing policies that promote parental engagement in decision-making processes can strengthen the connection between families and schools. This could include regular workshops, advisory committees, and opportunities for parents to provide feedback on school policies.
My ideal learning environment for students is one that is inclusive, engaging, and supportive, fostering both academic and personal growth. Here are the key characteristics:

Safe and Supportive Atmosphere: Students should feel physically and emotionally safe. A supportive environment encourages open communication, where they feel valued and respected, allowing for expression without fear of judgment.

Inclusive and Diverse: The learning space should celebrate diversity and be inclusive of all students, regardless of backgrounds, abilities, or learning styles. Differentiated instruction and culturally relevant curriculum ensure every student feels represented.

Collaborative Learning: Promoting collaboration enhances learning experiences. Group activities and project-based assignments develop critical thinking and teamwork skills while building peer relationships.

Flexible Learning Spaces: Classrooms should accommodate various learning styles with flexible seating, access to technology, and areas for quiet reflection or group work to cater to individual needs.

Engaging Curriculum: The curriculum should be relevant and incorporate real-world applications. Hands-on projects and interactive lessons ignite a passion for learning.

Strong Support Systems: Access to resources like counselors and academic support programs addresses students' social-emotional needs and helps navigate academic and personal challenges.

Community Involvement: Building partnerships with parents, local businesses, and community organizations enhances educational experiences and provides additional resources.

Focus on Social-Emotional Learning: Integrating social-emotional learning (SEL) helps students develop essential skills like self-awareness and empathy, contributing to overall well-being and academic success.

By creating a learning environment that embodies these principles, we can foster curiosity, resilience, and lifelong learning, empowering students to reach their full potential.
The Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) navigated the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic with commendable resilience, adapting to an unprecedented situation while prioritizing the health and safety of students and staff. The district swiftly transitioned to remote learning, implemented safety protocols, and provided resources for families to facilitate distance education. Additionally, efforts to support mental health and well-being were crucial during this time.

However, there are areas for improvement that could enhance our response to future crises:

1. **Enhanced Communication**: While the district communicated updates regularly, ensuring transparent and timely information to all stakeholders, including parents and staff, is vital. Establishing more robust communication channels can help address concerns and keep everyone informed.

2. **Technology Access and Support**: Although the district provided devices and resources for online learning, future planning should include a more comprehensive strategy to ensure all students have reliable internet access and ongoing technical support.

3. **Mental Health Resources**: The pandemic highlighted the importance of mental health support. Expanding access to mental health services for students, families, and staff should be a priority, ensuring that resources are readily available during crises.

4. **Flexible Learning Options**: Moving forward, offering a range of flexible learning options—such as hybrid models—can accommodate varying needs and preferences, ensuring that all students receive the education they deserve.

5. **Preparedness Plans**: Developing and regularly updating comprehensive emergency preparedness plans can equip the district to respond more effectively to future disruptions, ensuring continuity in education and support services.
Building strong relationships with parents in the Chula Vista Elementary School District is essential for fostering a supportive educational environment. Here are several strategies I would implement:

Open Communication Channels: I would establish multiple communication channels, including regular newsletters, social media updates, and dedicated email lines, to keep parents informed about district news, events, and opportunities for involvement.

Regular Parent Forums: Hosting regular parent forums and workshops would provide a platform for parents to voice their concerns, share their insights, and engage in discussions about school initiatives. These forums can focus on topics such as academic programs, mental health resources, and community involvement.

Parent Engagement Committees: I would encourage the formation of parent engagement committees that allow parents to actively participate in decision-making processes and contribute to school initiatives. This collaborative approach ensures that parents feel heard and valued.

Volunteer Opportunities: Actively promoting volunteer opportunities within schools can help parents become more involved in their children’s education and build connections with teachers and staff.

Celebrating Achievements: Recognizing and celebrating student and school achievements through events and communications can foster a sense of pride and community among parents.

Parent Education Programs: Offering workshops and resources focused on helping parents support their children’s learning at home—such as literacy and technology training—can empower families and strengthen the home-school connection.

Listening Tours: Conducting listening tours to meet with parents in various neighborhoods can help me understand their perspectives and concerns while building trust and rapport.

By implementing these strategies, I aim to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where parents feel empowered to contribute to their children’s education an
Recruiting high-quality faculty, staff, and administration is essential for the success of the Chula Vista Elementary School District. Here are my preferred strategies:

Competitive Compensation and Benefits: Offering competitive salaries and comprehensive benefits packages is key to attracting and retaining top talent. This includes health benefits, retirement plans, and opportunities for professional development.

Diverse Recruitment Efforts: Actively seeking a diverse pool of candidates ensures that our staff reflects the community we serve. Partnering with universities and organizations focused on diversity in education can enhance our recruitment efforts.

Highlighting the District’s Strengths: Promoting the unique strengths of the Chula Vista Elementary School District—such as innovative programs, community support, and a positive work environment—can attract candidates who align with our mission and values.
I believe financial transparency and government accountability are fundamental to public trust and effective governance. In education, particularly, transparency ensures that taxpayers understand how funds are allocated and why, from teacher salaries to facility improvements. Accountability in managing these funds means prioritizing resources to directly support students, educators, and essential programs.

Clear, accessible communication around budgeting and decision-making fosters community confidence, enabling stakeholders to see tangible results and understand the rationale behind difficult choices. For an elected official, it also means being responsive to community feedback and committed to refining processes to meet evolving needs. By making data and decisions open to scrutiny, we create a culture of trust and shared responsibility that strengthens our schools and the community.

As a parent of two young children in the district, it has been my honor and privilege to serve this district's students, parents, staff, and communities for many years with the commitment to ensure each individual student's academic success.

As a veteran educator who has spent the last 21 years supporting students, staff, and teachers, I understand the importance of advocating for the resources frontline teachers and staff need to provide quality education for our children.

Our district, under my leadership, has enjoyed fiscal stability and has been recognized multiple times across the state and nation. We have continued building modern schools and completed renovations of all school sites, making it a desirable district for your children and our community.

My focus is on curriculum and instruction, implementing best teaching practices to recover the learning loss suffered during the pandemic. I remain committed to ensuring students' academic, social, and emotional success by providing the right resources to reach their potential while insisting on the fiscal accountability of your tax dollars, a balanced budget, academic excellence, and safe schools.

My commitment is to continue investing resources for our students and support classrooms. Students are my Top Priority!

I have lived in the Chula Vista community for over 15 years. I am a product of public education and understand the value and impact that having the right education can have on individuals and future generations. Teachers have provided me with the support and guidance I needed to continue my educational path.

My priorities are:

Focus on solid curriculum and instruction while implementing the best teaching practices to recover the learning loss during the pandemic.

Continue to ensure fiscal accountability of your tax dollars by providing a balanced school district budget.

Address the needs of families by creating schools as hubs for the community with partnerships with healthcare providers, county agencies, nonprofit organizations, and neighborhood groups.

Continue with the expansion of full-time public transitional kindergarten in our district schools.

Expand the investment in green renewable energy by transitioning our school buses from diesel to electric or zero-emission buses.

Safeguard that the district continues to be the best place to be by retaining and attracting the best teachers and staff to provide the best learning opportunities to our students.

Increase the investment in our students to meet their social-emotional needs by increasing the number of school counselors and student behavior specialists.

Continue to build new schools in our community and modernize existing schools to maintain the quality safety and standards.

2014

Tamayo highlighted the following priorities on his campaign website:

I am running because I care about the future of our children and our communities. I believe that great schools build strong communities. I have a strong passion for Education and serving our children, that is what motivates me in my current Jobs as a Programmer Analyst and community activist focused on educational issues. Being able to work on supporting students, staff, and teachers with the technology tools necessary to succeed in the 21st century is what inspires me to continue to work in the education field.

For the past 13 years, I have been involved in several aspects concentrated on providing the technology, support, and training needed for students, staff, and teachers. During this time I have been learning about the different aspects of school district administration and becoming the voice of hundreds of classified staff members for the last 3 years along with advocating for better education.

As a parent of two small children, one about to start his journey in the Chula Vista Elementary School District increases my passion of service and willingness to provide the tools necessary to achieve the mission of putting students first. By giving the teachers and staff the resources they need to be successful inside and outside of the classroom providing an excellent academic experience, because It is my belief you play an important role in making a positive impact on the student academic experience that will drive their success no matter what role you have in the school system.

As your elected representative my priorities are to be the voice of the students, parents, and staff on the board to provide basic needs from reducing the class size to improving teacher engagement with students. Promoting the use of technology to increase the student achievement that is not limited to only a few schools, but make it a district wide requirement. Promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) by creating robotics and programming clubs that will help prepare every student to compete for the jobs of the 21st century.[10]
