Françoise Bergan was elected to her first term of Aurora City Council in 2015 on a platform of bold leadership and vision. She recognized Ward VI residents wanted abundant recreational opportunities, well-kept roads, retail shopping, safe neighborhoods, and good schools. In short, they deserved their fiscal fair share of city hall's attention. She pledged to advocate for families, neighborhoods, and businesses in her ward. She also promised to be a dedicated steward of tax dollars. She delivered on her promise. She has relationships with residents and HOAs, with top officials in city departments from Parks to Public Safety to Public Works, and with local business leaders that help improve Aurora every day. To her, being a council member is not a side job-it is her full-time job. Her impact is evident in an ordinance that closed the legal loophole shielding the owners of rental homes operating as illegal marijuana grow houses. It is proven by miles of additional trails, new and improved parks, and millions of dollars slated for open spaces without raising taxes. Roads are being widened and extended. Formerly barren medians are now landscaped. New traffic signals and intersections are making daily driving safer. And Ward VI will finally get its first recreation center.
  • Public Safety: I work closely with local law enforcement, emergency medical services, and fire departments to build on our positive relationships, better understand our community's needs, and ensure the delivery of excellent services. I am proud to be endorsed by both the Aurora Fraternal Order of Police and Aurora Firefighters Local 1290
  • Quality of Life: I will continue to coordinate with residents, departments, and city management to ensure families are able to enjoy our great outdoors, whether by maintaining infrastructure, improving recreational facilities, or protecting and enhancing the beauty of natural, open spaces.
  • Economic Development: Businesses with well-paying jobs attract the people and related services that create a cycle of opportunity and prosperity.
Most residents of southeast Aurora chose to live here because it felt like a great place with quality attainable housing, exceptional schools, amenities, and natural beauty in a safe environment.

We want excellent city resources that enhance our quality of life-police and fire service, recreational facilities, manicured parks, street lighting, smart traffic management, and dependable utilities, among other things. We are fortunate to live in a city that annually balances its budget while delivering exceptional service; I believe we can always improve.
Integrity, courage, fiscal responsibility, a commitment to public service and a thick skin.
My first job was as a grocery bagger in the commissary at RAF Upper Heyford, England. I worked for minimum wage plus tips, and took particular pride in my packing organization and the ability to handle two carts at once. I still am pretty picky with baggers to this day.
Yes. Members of Aurora City Council serve as policymakers for the city, approve annual budgets and contracts, and make land-use decisions. As the current council member for southeast Aurora, I represent 75,000 constituents, listening to their concerns and advocating on behalf of their community.

(2019)
Chair of Planning & Economic Development Committee
Vice-Chair of Public Safety, Courts & Civil Service Committee
Member of Water Policy Committee
Commissioner of Aurora Urban Renewal Authority

2015

Bergan's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[4]

Most of us moved to our community in Southeast Aurora because it felt like a great place to live with nice housing, quality schools, amenities, and natural beauty within a safe environment.

As taxpayers, you and I deserve services that enhance our quality of life -- police and fire, recreational facilities, road improvement, snow removal, adequate lighting, traffic management, parks maintenance and dependable utilities, among others. We are fortunate to live in a city that balances its budget while delivering excellent service; I believe we can continually improve upon it. Simply, I want to ensure that our tax dollars – yours and mine – are well spent.

If you know your Ward 6 City Councilperson, I would like to continue that relationship. If you don’t, I hope that will change. Simply, my “door” will always be open to my constituents. I will answer your questions or address your concerns in a timely manner. As your representative, I will usher in a new era of open communication with frequent community meetings and technological tools to keep you informed.[5]

—Francoise Bergan's campaign website, (2015)[4]

Economic Development

Commercial development is a community’s lifeblood. It brings prosperity and opportunity. But development at any cost is not the goal. I will work to encourage responsible, well-managed development to ensure Southeast Aurora continues to be a great place to live, work, learn and play.[5]

—Francoise Bergan's campaign website, (2015)[4]

Retail

Successful retail growth provides important revenue for Aurora to maintain and improve city services. I will work with city departments to simplify processes and make Ward 6 friendly for small businesses and promote an environment to attract quality companies.[5]

—Francoise Bergan's campaign website, (2015)[4]

Education

I will collaborate with area schools and businesses to build partnerships that enhance student experiences and employment opportunities. And I will bridge the partnership between local law enforcement and schools to ensure safe environments for learning.[5]
