Frank E. Sheffield was a judge of the Second Circuit Court in Florida. He was elected to this position on November 4, 2008, taking office the following January.[1][2] He was re-elected without opposition in 2014.[3] Sheffield retired on December 31, 2015, a few days before he turned 70, the mandatory retirement age in Florida. Sheffield said he was not ready to retire, and criticized the mandatory retirement law. "A lot of experienced trial judges that should be in their prime and continuing on are being forced to retire because of an amendment to the constitution that was adopted 44 years ago," he said.[4]

Education

Sheffield attended Florida State University, where he received his B.S. degree in marketing in 1968. He went on to receive his J.D. from the Florida State University College of Law in 1972.[5]

Career

Sheffield was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1972. He then became an associate at J. Marshall Gifford, P.A. From March to May of 1973, he worked as an associate of the firm Dye & Conner. He then joined Jim L. Dye & Associates, where he practiced until September of 1973. That month, he started his own firm, Frank E. Sheffield, P.A. From May of 1978 to September of 1980, he was a senior partner of Michaels, Sheffield, Perkins, Collins & Vickers, but he returned to his own firm in 1980. He worked in that capacity until he joined the circuit court in January of 2009.[5]
