Frank Polozola
Frank Joseph Polozola was an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana. He joined the court in 1980 after being nominated by President Jimmy Carter. Prior to his death on February 24, 2013, Polozola served on senior status for six years.[1][2]
Early life and education
A native of Louisiana, Polozola graduated Louisiana State University Law School with his law degree in 1965.[1]
Professional career
Polozola was a law clerk for former federal judge Elmer West in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana from 1965 to 1966. Polozola later became a private practice attorney licensed in the State of Louisiana from 1966 to 1973. Also, Polozola was a part-time professor at Louisiana State University Law Center since 1977.[1]
Judicial nominations and appointments
Middle District of Louisiana
Polozola began his legal career as a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana from 1972 to 1973 as he was appointed to a four-year term as a part-time federal magistrate judge until 1973 when a new full-time federal magistrate judgeship was created. Polozola was re-appointed in 1973 to a full eight-year term as a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana and served in the role until his elevation in the federal bench in 1980.
Polozola was nominated by President Jimmy Carter on April 2, 1980, to a seat vacated by Elmer West as West assumed senior status. Polozola was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on May 21, 1980 and received commission on May 23, 1980. Polozola served as the chief judge of the court from 1998 to 2005 before later assuming senior status on January 15, 2007.[1] Polozola was succeeded in this position by Brian Jackson.
