Fred Karlinsky is a Florida attorney who specializes in insurance regulation.[1] As of May 2017, Karlinsky was a shareholder with the firm of Greenberg Traurig and a registered lobbyist in the state of Florida.[2][3]

In March 2017, Karlinsky was appointed to the Florida Constitution Revision Commission, a 37-member commission that reviews and proposes changes to the Florida Constitution.[1]

According to his biography on the Greenberg Traurig website, Karlinsky is a Republican.[2]

Career

Education

Fred Karlinsky earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Miami in 1989 and a Juris Doctorate from the Florida State University College of Law in 1992.[2]

Legal career

Karlinsy was a shareholder at the firm of Colodny, Fass, Talenfeld, Karlinsky, Abate and Webb from 1993 to October 2014.[4] He joined Greenberg Traurig in 2014 as shareholder and co-chair of the firm's insurance regulatory and transactions practice.[2] Karlinsky specializes in insurance regulation, government law and policy, financial regulations and compliance, and cyber security.[2]

In 2008, Karlinsky became an adjunct professor of law at Florida State University.[2]

From 2011-2014, Karlinsy served on the 17th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission in Florida. He was appointed by Florida Governor Rick Scott.[5]

In 2014, Rick Scott appointed Karlinsky to the Florida Supreme Court Judicial Nominating Commission. His term expired in 2018.[2]

Florida Constitution Revision Commission

In March 2017, Karlinsky was appointed to the Florida Constitution Revision Commission (CRC) by Florida Governor Rick Scott, a Republican.[1]

The Florida Constitution Revision Commission is a 37-member commission provided for in the state constitution that reviews and proposes changes to the Florida Constitution.[6] The CRC refers constitutional amendments directly to the ballot for a public vote.[7] The commission convenes every 20 years.[6] Members of the commission travel to different parts of Florida to perform research and receive public testimony before recommending these ballot measures.[8]

The Constitution Revision Commission of 2017-2018 was composed of 37 members. Gov. Rick Scott, a Republican, appointed 15 members of the CRC. President of the Florida Senate, Joe Negron (R), appointed nine members. Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, Richard Corcoran (R) appointed nine members. Jorge Labarga, chief justice of the Florida Supreme Court, appointed three members.[9]
