Fred Wellman grew up in Kirkwood, Missouri, and graduated from Kirkwood High before attending West Point. A third-generation military veteran, Fred served more than twenty years in the U.S. Army as a helicopter pilot and officer, deploying multiple times to Iraq and earning his Ranger tab. After earning a master’s degree from Harvard’s Kennedy School, Fred retired from the Army and founded ScoutComms, a nationally recognized firm that invested in veterans and military families. When the pandemic struck, Fred helped lead a team of Special Operations medical veterans to build and run a field hospital in New York City. He later served as a Senior Advisor and Executive Director of the Lincoln Project, organizing efforts to strengthen democracy and accountability in government. Now back home in Wildwood with his fiancée, their dogs Ash and Maple, and their cat Shugs, Fred is focused on service, leadership, and fighting for Missouri families.
  • Affordability - Every Missourian deserves the freedom to build a good life without being burdened by rising costs. Families are working harder than ever but falling further behind because the price of housing, healthcare, childcare, and groceries keeps climbing while wages stay flat. We must put working families first by lowering costs, expanding access to good-paying jobs, and making sure every family can afford the basics — not just to survive, but to thrive.
  • Healthcare - Every Missourian deserves access to affordable, quality healthcare that covers them when they get sick or need to see a specialist. No one should lose their home or life savings to medical debt. I support expanding access through a public option and allowing Missourians to buy into Medicare before they turn 65. These reforms would increase competition, drive down premiums and deductibles, and make sure every family can afford the care they need.
  • Retiring with Dignity - After a lifetime of hard work, every Missourian should be able to retire with dignity and security. No one should have to choose between paying for medicine, housing, or heat in their later years. We must protect Social Security and Medicare, defend pensions, and strengthen retirement benefits so that those who built this country can live their final years with stability and respect.
Missourians deserve a fair shot at a good life, with affordable healthcare, lower costs, and the freedom to build a secure future. I believe our economy should reward hard work, not special interests, so families can afford housing, childcare, groceries, and retirement without falling into debt. After a lifetime of work, every Missourian should be able to retire with dignity by protecting Social Security, Medicare, and pensions. I support expanding access to affordable healthcare, including a public option and allowing people to buy into Medicare earlier. Personal medical decisions belong with families and doctors, not politicians.
