The Texas Free Flow of Information Act was a reporter's shield law passed by the Texas Legislature in early 2009. The bill was originally authored by Reps. Berman, Gallego, Lucio III, Martinez Fischer, and Pitts. The bill was sponsored by Sen. Rodney Ellis. On February 18, 2009, the bill was introduced to the Texas House of Representatives. The bill passed both chambers of the Texas State Legislature and was signed into law by Governor Rick Perry on May 13, 2009.[1]
The effort to pass the bill into law was spearheaded by the Freedom of Information Foundation Texas.
