Three seats on the Freehold Regional High School District Board of Education were up for general election on November 4, 2014.

Incumbent Michael Messinger won re-election to the Marlboro Township seat unopposed. Samuel Carollo won the Freehold Township unopposed. Incumbent board member Carl Accettola's son, Vincent Accettola, won the Colts Neck Township seat unopposed.[1][2]

Freehold Regional High School District is located in Monmouth County, New Jersey. The county seat of Monmouth County is Freehold Borough. In 2013, Monmouth County was home to approximately 629,672 residents, according to estimates by the United States Census Bureau.[3] In 2011-2012 school year, Freehold Regional High School District was the 11th-largest school district by enrollment in New Jersey and served 11,594 students.

Demographics

In 2012, Monmouth County had a higher percentage of residents with a bachelor's degree compared to the state overall. The United States Census Bureau reported that 40.3 percent of residents aged 25 and older in the county had earned a bachelor's degree, compared with 35.4 percent for New Jersey. The median household income in Monmouth County was $84,746, above the state median of $71,637. The unemployment rate in the county was 6.6 percent, compared to 9.9 percent statewide.[3]

Voter and candidate information

As of the 2014 election, the Freehold Regional High School District Board of Education consisted of nine nonpartisan members who were elected to three-year terms for a specific region of the school district. Candidates for the Board of Education must be 18 years old and have resided within the district for at least one year before their election or appointment. There are no term limits.

Candidates were required to submit nominating petitions with 10 signatures to the county clerk by the filing deadline on July 28, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. Voters had to register by October 14, 2014, to vote in the election.[5][6]
