An effort to recall Mayor Scott Getzschman and Councilman Larry Johnson in Fremont, Nebraska from his position were launched in September 2014.[1] The recall leader halted the effort and promised to revisit the issue in 2015.[2]

Recall proponent arguments

Getzschman and Johnson were targeted by resident LaVern J. Kucera for their support of repealing the housing portions of the city's illegal immigrant ordinance.[1]

A recall petition against Getzschman was filed on September 24, 2014, and against Johnson on September 29, 2014. Supporters had until October 24, 2014, to 3,526 signatures, 35 percent of the votes cast in the most recent mayoral election, for Getzschman. In Johnson's recall, supporters had until October 29, 2014 to collect 783 signatures. The city clerk would have had 15 days following submission to verify the signatures. Following verification, the city council would have scheduled a recall election within 30 to 75 days.[1] Recall proponents decided to end the recall effort.[2]
