A Fremont Union High School District parcel tax, Measure B ballot question was on the May 4, 2010 ballot for voters in the Fremont Union High School District in Santa Clara County, where it was approved.[1][2]
Measure B asked voters to renew the district's existing parcel tax of $98/parcel for another six years. The current tax was set to expire in June 2011. It generated about $5.2 million each year, or about 5% of the school district's annual budget.
The May 2010 election came just six months after voters in the school district rejected Measure G.[1]
The school district paid a public opinion polling company out of its general operating fund to conduct a poll to measure whether voters in the district were likely to vote in favor of the May 4 parcel tax request. The district reported that the results of this survey were that sentiment in favor of the tax is "very strong."[1] A similar poll taken before the November 2008 vote erroneously predicted that over 70% of voters would vote "yes."[1]
In June 2008, voters in the district approved Measure B, a $198 million bond measure.
The election on Measure B was held on a mail-in ballot basis.[3] The cost of administering the mail-in election was estimated at $9.00/voter.[4]
A two-thirds (66.67%) vote was required for approval.

Text of measure
The question on the ballot:
| Measure B: "To provide, stable, local funds needed to protect teaching positions, and assure the Cupertino, Fremont, Homestead, Lynbrook, and Monta Vista High School students are prepared to successfully compete for college admission, shall the Fremont Union High School District renew its existing, expiring parcel tax with a tax at the same annual rate of $98 per parcel for six years commencing July 1, 2010, with all funds benefiting local high schools, and offering an exemption to seniors and the disabled?"[5][6] |
District budget
The Fremont Union High School District increased its budget for the 2009-2010 school year over its budget for the 2008-2009 school year by 1% in spite of the economic woes in the region. The district's operating budget was $100 million. 81% of the budget pays for staff salaries and fringe benefits, including the salaries and fringe benefits of the district's administrative personnel.[7]
