Three of the seven seats on the Frisco Independent School District board of trustees were up for general election on May 7, 2016. Place 1 incumbent Bryan Dodson won the election without opposition. The Place 2 incumbent did not file for re-election and newcomer Steven Noskin defeated candidates Anjali Shirvaikar and Phil Ramirez in the race. Incumbent Chad Rudy was unopposed in his re-election bid for the Place 3 seat. There was no primary.[1]

Voter and candidate information

The Frisco ISD board of trustees is composed of seven members who are elected at large to three-year terms. Candidates file to run for a specific seat, but all voters in the school district are eligible to vote for every seat up for election. Places 1, 2, and 3 were scheduled for general election on May 7, 2016. There was no primary election.[2]

Candidates running for the school board had to be a United States citizen, a resident of Texas for at least 12 months, and a resident of the district for at least six months. Candidates also had to be 18 years of age or older and registered to vote.[2]

Frisco Independent School District is located in Denton County, Texas.

Frisco Independent School District is based in Frisco, Texas, a city located in portions of Collin County and Denton County. According to the United States Census Bureau, Frisco was home to 154,407 residents between 2010 and 2015.[7] The district was the 23rd-largest school district in the state in the 2013–2014 school year and served 46,053 students.[8]

Demographics

Frisco outperformed Texas as a whole in terms of higher education achievement from 2010 to 2015. The United States Census Bureau found that 58.4 percent of city residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree compared to 27.1 percent statewide. The median household income in Frisco was $112,155 compared to $52,576 for the entire state, and the city poverty rate was 4.2 percent compared to 17.2 percent statewide.[7]
