I am a father of three who grew up in Louisville has practiced real estate law here for over 22 years. I have made public service a staple of my life to this point, serving on the boards of (and volunteering for) a number of charitable and civic organizations throughout the city, and I wanted to run for office because I see a need in state government for individuals with the talents and skills I possess. I am not a career politician, I have no plans to be one, and I just want to serve my community to the best of my ability.
I have two primary areas I'd love to focus on in state government - the state's economy and public education.
I think communication and transparency are traits all politicians should possess - we live in a political climate where citizens far too often do not trust their elected officials, and one way we can combat this perception is by being as open and transparent with our constituents as possible.
I would simply like for my children to be proud of the decisions I have made - both professionally and personally - to make my community a better place to live.
The first historical event that I can remember would be the Iran Hostage Crisis - I was young at the time (roughly 6 years old or so), so I don't remember understanding or appreciating the importance of the situation, but I do remember the fear and anxiety of the adults in my life every time that topic came up, and that's what made me realize how frightening it was. I also remember the footage of the hostages being marched out of the US Embassy in Tehran with blindfolds, and that absolutely terrified me.
In light of recent events, the greatest challenge without question will be our state's economy - we need to take drastic steps to redevelop our economy as we are facing record unemployment and a massive deficit. We need to find new streams of revenue to support this state, one of which should be the passage of legislation authorizing expanded gaming and sports wagering.
Absolutely - if elected, one of the first things I'd want to do is make a concerted effort to at least introduce myself to as many colleagues as possible within the House. It is crucial that a legislator know the motivations and backgrounds of as many other legislators as possible so as to better assist them in crafting legislation that has a far better chance of being enacted into law.
To be honest, that thought has not even crossed my mind - my singular focus is on representing the 32nd district and trying to be as zealous an advocate as possible for its interests.
