Zermeno provided the following statement on his Facebook campaign page:

My name is Gabriel Zermeno Casillas. I grew up in this neighborhood and I would love it to return to the beautiful place it once was. It is slowly slipping away day by day unless we do something about it. I plan to start at the place where we are influenced the most which is schools. I want to run for the School Board so that I can help influence the kids and ask them to help preserve the neighborhood. As of right now, I am extending my hand to anyone that feels they can help. I don't have money, I'm not rich but I do have a voice and a dream. So please stand with me when the time comes and it is our turn to push back against the problems that persist in these areas that are slowly dragging my friends, my family and the children with them.[2]
