Recall reports

An effort to recall four members of the Galesburg-Augusta School Board of Education in Kalamazoo County, Michigan was launched in June 2012.[1] The recall effort was abandoned in July 2012.[2] The school board members who faced recall are Sandra Noteboom-Wood, Bob Kinas, Karen Rutherford, and Beth Wilson.

Reasons for recall

All four recall targets were charged with not properly managing the Superintendent,[1] giving a raise to the Superintendent, and proposing to privatize janitors and bus drivers.[2]

Path to the ballot

The County Elections Commission reviewed the petition language on July 3.[1] The language was ruled vague and confusing. In addition, the County Elections Commission ruled that two of the recall targets could not be recalled because they are in the final 6 months of their terms.[2] Recall organizers submitted amended petitions for Rutherford and Noteboom-Wood, but that language was rejected for being unclear at a hearing on July 31.[3]
