[1]
This measure sought to allow a mill override at a rate of $3 million in order to help pay for offsetting cuts in funding for staff and programs in the school district. The committee, Friends of Garfield Re-2 had been formed to help promote this measure and campaign in favor of its approval.[2] School officials noted that this money would not have been used for additional capital, but rather just help the school maintain its current programs and budget. If the measure had been approved, an addition of $18 per $100,000 of assessed property value per year would have been added to the local tax rate. School officials also noted that they had cut teaching positions and programs which were not essential, but hope to not cut more.[3]
Current Statewide
A 2013 statewide measure, Amendment 66, would authorize Colorado to increase taxes with an expected revenue increase of $950 million for school funding.[4]
