I'm Garth Strand, running for Kansas House District 104 to give voters a credible choice. A choice of perspectives, priorities, personality and especially leadership style. I offer a style that is listening, thoughtful, civil and fair.

I don't know about you but I am tired of partisan politics that are taking down the wrong road. Too many elected officials are more interested in party politics than being servant leaders for those that elected them.

I grew up on a small Kansas farm, graduated from college with dual degrees in business and education thinking I was going to be a high school business teacher. Alas, after my student teaching, I concluded that was not for me. I then found myself in the world of finance and spent a rewarding 37 year career, the last 28 years as CEO, of what is now Heartland Credit Union. I understand how to listen and lead.

I have been a life-long, conservative Democrat mostly because my parents were also life-long Democrats. They were nothing what some stereotypical Democrats are perceived to be today. They were just good conservative folks who tried to do the right thing, were willing to get along, work hard and help someone who needed help. Frankly, I don't align fully with either party and consider myself to be a strong moderate. All that being said, I must accept the fact that we have a two party system to have a seat at the table.
  • I am a servant leader offering listening, thoughtful, civil and fair leadership.
  • I will respond to citizens of District 104, not party politics.
  • I am fiscally conservative, pro-business, a consumer advocate and expect a well run, efficient government. I also believe we are called to care for the most needy among us.
Improved access by all to medical care, including access to Medicaid.

Adequate and equitable funding of public education.
Tax fairness and fiscal responsibility.
A safe State for Kansas families.
Protecting the environment.

Fostering a healthy business climate.
My parents have been the most influential force in my life for which I am grateful. Of course, Jesus gives me the ultimate example.
I built a successful and rewarding career as a servant leader.
To listen to their constituents without their own ideologies in the way.
I am not interested in a legacy. I simply want to do my best every day.
My first job was a Kansas farm boy where I learned about hard work, discipline, getting the job done and helping others.
House seats seem to have smaller constituencies and therefore should be more closely in touch with voters.
Re-establishing a civil, working governance that is driven by what is best for the State, not geared towards particular party victories.
Both should be civil, respectful servant leaders working for all citizens of the State.
A non-partisan process with consistent, tangible requirements.
I have experience in the world of finances and a longstanding interest in a healthy envorionment.
No. I have not intentions of a political career. I simply hope to be part of a 'nudge' back to civil, effective governance.
