Primary: He was successful in the Republican primary on May 6, 2014, receiving 63.6 percent of the vote. He competed against Mike Callow.
General: He was defeated in the general election on November 4, 2014, after receiving 44.8 percent of the vote. He competed against Joyce V. Kimbler. [1][2]

Werner received his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1991 and his J.D. degree from the Loyola Law School in Los Angeles in 1994.[3]
